Preschool-Stars

This week we studied stars. Did you know that there are stars inside apples? If you cut an apple in half, side to side not end to end, you will see a star. We also looked at the star flower. We counted the points on a star and talked about the number 5.

Exposed #5

Thought for the Day

"Stresses in our lives come regardless of our circumstances. We must deal with them the best we can. But we should not let them get in the way of what is most important—and what is most important almost always involves the people around us. Often we assume that they must know how much we love them. But we should never assume; we should let them know. Wrote William Shakespeare, 'They do not love that do not show their love.' We will never regret the kind words spoken or the affection shown. Rather, our regrets will come if such things are omitted from our relationships with those who mean the most to us."~Thomas S. Monson

KSL Classifieds-Thank You

I was looking at the KSL Classifieds free section and someone had posted two palm pilots. They said they worked and needed to be recharged. Normally, I won't go when they say whoever gets here first can have them but they were close and it hadn't been up long so I figured I'd try. The box was still there when I arrived at the house. I brought them home and tried to charge them. Only one would charge but I'm not complaining. I'm going to go to their website to see if I can get a hot sync disk. Woohoo.

My Real Age

I took the Real Age Test. My calendar age is 36. My real age is 37.3. One thing I can do to get younger is follow a weight plan I can stick with. No news there. They suggested 4 things I can do to lose some weight and I thought I'd share them with you.
4 Powerful Ways to Reach Your Optimal Weight
Believe it or not, your body naturally wants to take you to your ideal weight, and the YOU: On a Diet plan is designed to help get it there. It’s based on four simple strategies:

1. Find a diet buddy -- someone to listen and keep you on track.
2. Track your waist -- measure your middle, every day.
3. Restock your fridge -- out with the bad, in with the good.
4. Walk every day -- 30 minutes, no matter what. Here’s why.

Your inner voice may cheerlead you into thinking longer walks equal more pounds lost, but research shows it may not be so.

Long walks may be best for someone more fit, but shorter strolls -- about 30 minutes 5 days a week -- could be all you need in the first 3 months of a walking program to achieve the weight-loss benefit you seek. Once you're feeling stronger, and the walking is easier, add minutes and intensity to reach your next goal. That'll give your inner voice something to cheer about.

Protect Your Daughters From Breast Cancer

I received this in my email this morning from SparkPeople. Thought it was important enough to share with all my blog friends.

Protect Your Daughters from Breast Cancer

Recently, scientists studied the effects of diet on mice that were genetically modified to develop breast cancer. Once bred, they fed female mice a diet high in either omega-3 fatty acids or omega-6 fatty acids throughout pregnancy and while breastfeeding their young mice. Once weaned, the young female mice continued on either the omega-3 or omega-6 diet. All of the baby mice on the omega-6 fatty acid diet showed tumor development by 6 months of age, while those on the healthy, omega-3 fatty acid diet had only 13% incidence of tumor development. Most people's diets are high in meat, eggs, poultry, snack crackers, chips, sweets, baked goods, vegetables oils, and margarine--foods high in omega-6 fatty acids--and low in omega-3 fatty acids. This type diet may actually increase the risk for breast cancer.

Action Sparked: Your daughter's risk of developing breast cancer is likely reduced when you: eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids during pregnancy and lactation, and continue to feed her a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids after weaning. Include 2-3 servings of foods high in omega-3 fatty acids (foods such as flaxseed, flaxseed oil, canola oil, soybeans, soybean oil, walnuts, fish and shellfish) each week.
