Famiy Home Evening Scriptures

Last night we talked about reading the scriptures. We start to read as a family and then stop, then start, then stop, etc. So I thought doing a family home evening once a quarter on how important it is to read them might help with the motivation. Last night we started out with our prayer of course. Next, we reviewed our famiy business. Next, for the scripture, we used the 8th Article of Faith which was given by our son. The song was Search, Ponder and Pray (Children's Songbook, page 109). The Poem/Thought for the night was New and Used by A. Jonathan Vance read by our daughter. For the lesson, we read "Read the Scriptures" by President Spencer W. Kimball. We got it from the inside cover of the Friend December 1985. We talked about ways to study the scriptures, why its important, etc. For the activity, they were each given a "Book of Mormon Coloring Chart" from the Friend, January 2000, page 14. For the treat, we used the Scripture Cookiies found in the Friend, January 1998 page 4.
